Thanks to a newer friend of mine named Julie, I get to write about a friend that I have had since 9th grade. Yes, that is nearly 14 years of being friends. We have been through thick and thin, Hell and high water, love, laughter, and heartbreak together. People used to think we were lesbians because of the love we had for each other… ah those high school memories.
We met in choir. It was a showdown of staring, as we both knew that we were the top of our class * I was in 2nd period and she was in 6th*. It was from that moment that we decided whether we would be mortal enemies or best of friends. I am glad that we chose the latter. She is a formidable opponent. We sang together, acted in plays together, traveled together. We were destined to be the best of friends.
Today, she is my son’s godmother. We see each other and talk on the phone frequently. Even though we are about an hour away, she is one friend I know I will never “grow” out of.

[...] 4. Besides your husband, who’s your best friend and why do they deserve that honor? My very best friend on this earth that is not married to me is my sister-friend Brenna. Hands down they best friend anyone could ever ask for. We have been through hell and high water together and nothing shakes our friendship. She is my son’s godmother and the one who will be taking him if anything happens… you know… I trust her implicitly. She and I love each other so much that people in school used to accuse us of being a couple. We didn’t care, because who could understand a friendship…a sisterhood as close as ours. I just found out not too long ago she is part of my tribe so in fact, we are blood relatives. She deserves so much honor upon her. She helps keep me sane. When everyone else fails, she does not. I love her with my very soul. I prayed for years for a friend like her and I am glad that we found each other. [...]
